AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON IMPORTANCE OF GIRL’S EDUCATION AND PREVENTION OF SCHOOL DROPOUTS IN VILLAGES

We, K.Leela Pavani, Lecturer in Computer Science and T.Uma, Lecturer in Zoology conducted an awareness program on girl child education in Borramamidi village with the active participation of 40 students of Government Degree College Chintapalli. The program began with a visit to the primary school in the village, where we interacted with 40 school children. During the session, we emphasized the importance of educating girls and explained how education empowers them to lead independent and dignified lives. We also highlighted the urgent need to eradicate child marriages, stressing that early marriage deprives girls of their childhood, education, and health. The children listened attentively, and the teachers appreciated the initiative. After completing the activities in Borramamidi, we proceeded to Kattupalli village. There, we visited the primary school and engaged with both the students and the villagers. The discussions focused on the significance of girl child education, the harmful effects of child marriages, and the importance of maintaining good health and hygiene. We explained how hygiene practices contribute to better learning and overall well-being. The villagers responded positively, showing interest in supporting the cause.

To further spread the message, we organized a rally with 40 students. The rally moved through the streets of the village, with students raising slogans and carrying placards that promoted education, equality, and health awareness. The energy and enthusiasm of the students attracted the attention of the villagers, who gathered to listen and observe. The rally created a strong impact, as the slogans echoed through the community and inspired conversations among families. Many villagers expressed their willingness to encourage their daughters to continue schooling and delay marriage until adulthood.

The program also included interactive sessions where students performed short skits and role plays to demonstrate the challenges faced by girls when denied education. These performances made the issues more relatable and helped the villagers understand the long-term consequences of child marriages. We also distributed pamphlets highlighting government schemes and support systems available for girl child education. The villagers were informed about scholarships, free textbooks, and mid-day meal programs that reduce the financial burden on families. In addition, as a gesture of goodwill and encouragement, we distributed biscuits to the villagers and school children, which brought joy and created a friendly atmosphere during the program.

We further stressed the importance of health and hygiene, particularly for adolescent girls. Topics such as menstrual hygiene, nutrition, and sanitation were discussed openly to break taboos and encourage healthy practices. Teachers and parents were urged to create a supportive environment where girls feel confident and safe.

The program concluded with a collective pledge by students, teachers, and villagers to support girl child education and work towards eliminating child marriages. Overall, the initiative left a lasting impact, inspiring both children and the community to envision a brighter, healthier, and more equitable future for girls.
